Allman Brothers Band

On March 26, 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida, guitarist Duane Allman convened a jam session including bassist Berry Oakley, guitarist Dickey Betts, and drummers Jaimoe and Butch Trucks. It was the first musical meeting of the group which, with the addition of Gregg Allman on vocals and Hammond organ, would become The Allman Brothers Band-one of the most acclaimed and influential groups in the history of rock and roll. On March 26, 1999 at the Beacon Theater in New York, the Allman Brothers Band celebrated its 30th Anniversary with the penultimate performance of their sixth annual "March Madness" stand at the venerable theater-a total of 80 sold-out Beacon shows since 1993. Diamond Dust: The Eccentric Genius of Jeff Beck

by Doug Collette
The man played like he had a love/hate relationship with his guitar. One moment he could be ever-so-gently coaxing bittersweet strains from the strings and the next he could very well be wringing tortuous sounds from up and down the fretboard, as often as not thanks to his instinctively savvy use of the whammy bar. It ...

Vocalist/musician/songwriter Jimmy Hall has had quite the career for himself. From his days as frontman for Dixie rockers Wet Willie-- remember Keep On Smilin'"?--to more recently singing with guitar hero Jeff Beck, he's navigated spots on the Allman Family Revival tour as well as commanded the stage on multiple occasions with the latter-day Allman Brothers Band ...
Allman Brothers Band: Syria Mosque Pittsburgh, PA January 17, 1971

by Doug Collette
On the surface, The Allman Brother Band's Syria Mosque Pittsburgh, PA January 17, 1971, would appear to be just another in a long line of live releases featuring the original six-man lineup of the archetypal Southern blues-rockers. It is, however, markedly superior on many fronts. Granted, this title hardly renders obsolete ABB's seminal concert ...

Scott Sawyer: Change of Scene

by Doug Collette
Notwithstanding a history including associations with the varied likes of famed jazz fretboardists John Abercrombie, and Chris Stamey of the veteran power popsters the dBs, guitarist Scott Sawyer may have the lowest public profile of the three musicians appearing on Change of Scene. Still, it certainly says something about his reputation, not to mention his chops, ...
